If you have a business that is serious about creating great content, then having a blog is much more important today than ever before. It will allow you to disclose what your values are as an organization. It will also enable you to demonstrate your own expertise and know-how. It will also allow you share your experience as a business owner and be able to communicate such topics which will fit perfectly into your email and other marketing campaigns. It enables you to connect with your audience as a person with real thoughts, real advice, and real insights. Overall, it will allow you to humanize your content and to be able to relate directly to your audience.
How To Get Started With Blogging
The actual reality is that starting (or restarting) a blog, is not always as easy or simple as you just wanting to do it. For many people, being able to overcome the anxiety and apprehension of getting started can be the most difficult part of the entire process.
If you’re serious about getting started with your Blog, here are 8 things that you will want to consider:
1. What is your reason for creating a Blog?
You do understand what creating a blog can do for a small business as a whole. However, the real questions is; what can a blog do for YOUR business in particular? More importantly, what are the added benefits by having a blog for your business and what will it bring to the people who are reading it? It is important from the start that you identify your goals and let them be a guide for the rest of your decisions.
2. Who is your audience going to be?
Your decision about what you are going to talk about on your blog will depend completely on who you are actually creating content for. Who are the people that are going to be reading your blog? What type of expertise or knowledge will you be able to share with them? What are some of the questions that they need answered? My website for example, which contains blogs like this one, is all about a work at home business opportunity. It outlines the features and benefits of Affiliate Marketing. It is all about the Wealthy Affiliate platform as a means to learn and to enter into the Affiliate Marketing business. I am a strong supporter of the Wealthy Affiliate Training Program and I suggest strongly that you at least take a look and take the Free Test Drive as mentioned on my #1 Recommendation Page. Every piece of content I create is written primarily keeping that audience in mind. You will need identify your target audience before coming up with the many ideas of what you actually want to create.
3. What are the topics you going to talk about?
Every blog is built on certain foundational or cornerstone topics. These topics are derived from a number of key elements. The most important of which is your audience, your industry, and the community in which you live and/or work. By establishing and creating the topics you are going to be focusing on, you will be able to make better decisions about what will actually end up on your blog. This will enable you to build a community and a following around your blog and will increase the chances of having your readers refer other people to it. This will not only put your content in front of a wider and larger audience, but it will also be a valuable asset for boosting your presence on search engines like Google.
4. How often will you be able to post?
As with all of the other things you are already doing to market your online business, the frequency that you post will need to be an important consideration when starting your blog. It is possible that if you try to do too much, to soon, you run the risk getting overwhelmed or burnt out early on by the blogging experience. Conversely, if you post too infrequently, it could be difficult for you to build a substantial and meaningful audience. If at all possible, you should commit to doing at least two to three posts a week for your first few months of blogging. Take a close look at your calendar and set hard goals and deadlines for when you want your posts to go online.
These don’t need to be groundbreaking pieces of online literature. It can be something as simple as a photo and a few words. This can go a long way and it also lets your audience know that you are serious about staying very active. From there, you will be able make more decisions further on down the road about whether or not you should be generating and developing more content.
5. What type of content do you want to create?
One of the biggest misconceptions that people have about writing a blog, is that a certain level of writing expertise and excellence is required to be able create one. But the hard fact is that for a lot of people, writing is not something that comes easy and it is not something they particularly like to do. For those people, the possibility of incorporating other types of content, like photos and videos, may be a better alternative.
Also, it is important to keep in mind that you don’t have to be an accomplished or talented writer to create great content. The reality of it is that great content is all about answering the questions that your audience may have. As a regular exercise, you can write out these questions and answers that can serve as your outline for your Blog.
6. Where does your content come from?
You know, for a lot of people, the very thought of blogging conjures up an image of being stuck alone in a room and staring a blank computer screen. But creating content for your blog does not necessarily need to be an individual exercise. In fact, you can encourage members of your family, your friends and even your co-workers to get involved. They can help you to keep your content fresh and it will give your readers varying perspectives on the topics that you are talking about. You can even look to other businesses or people outside your close inner circle whose opinions you think might fit well on your blog. There are a lot of people who would be more than happy to contribute to your blog just for the opportunity of getting more exposure for their own content or business. As in many circumstances, all you need to do is ask.
7. How will your Blog tie in to your other business or marketing efforts?
It is very possible that you have already been creating some type content for quite some time, sometime without actually knowing it. It can be as simple as coming up with something to put into your latest email or figuring out what you want to post on Facebook or Twitter. Having a blog will actually make those efforts easier, not more difficult. If you can commit to writing at least two blog posts a week for an entire month, you will then have eight valuable pieces of content that will help fuel your online marketing program. You can check out Constant Contact on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, or YouTube and you will be able to see plenty of ideas that will help you to start your Blog. You can do this for your business and it will not only take a lot of the stress out of your online marketing program, but it will also help you get your content in front of a much wider audience.
8. Where would you like your Blog to Reside?
One of the challenges that can often keep business owners away from blogging is the challenge of picking a service that will be best for their online business. It is much like picking the right email marketing provider or like deciding which social media sites to sign up for. You will want to choose a platform that will make sense for your business and that will offer you the tools that you looking for. I recommend WordPress as your website platform. How To Overcome The Anxiety Of Getting Started.
Alright, so now you know what you need to do and now is the time to do it. You don’t need to be afraid to start small. For most people, by using your first post to introduce your blog, it will take a lot of stress out of getting started. The good news is that by reading and answering the above questions, you will already have a large percentage of your first post written.
Lastly, I think the biggest fear that bloggers will face is that whether or not all of this hard work they’re doing is ever going to pay off. I tell you, I know how it feels. You definitely do not want to waste time on something that may not work. You want to be a resounding success and you also want to make a difference. None of us want to lose or to look like a fool.
So, here is the best advice that I can give you:
Nobody knows if what you are doing is actually going to pay off. However, I can say without any doubt, that as long as you really want to succeed with every part of your being and you are willing to do whatever it takes to do it, you will be a success at this endeavor. You may have to make changes or adjustments along the way, but with a positive attitude and a strong drive to succeed, you will attain and exceed all of your goals. Success is at your doorstep.
